Whatever you do (Day 4)

Reading: Colossians 3:17 ESV

‘And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.’

If I followed this biblical instruction literally and everything I did, said and watched was in the name of my Lord Jesus, I have to be honest – there are many things I would have to cease doing right now.

As I write this particular day, it has brought about an uncomfortable challenge to my own heart. Could I put the name of Jesus at the end of my every sentence as I recount my day? Could I overspend in His name? Watch an obscenity-filled Netflix series in His name? Criticise my employers in His name? The above may be personal examples in my own experience, in any case, what you be ashamed to put His beautiful name to in your own life?

If Christ lives within us and His desires have become our own, we won’t have cause for  concern when He asks us to put His name to whatever we are doing!

The secondary component in this verse is an attitude of thankfulness embodied in all that God has done for us through Jesus.

Today as well as being repentant about those habits in our lives we would be ashamed to add His name beside, reflect on how you can thank Him in whatever you get to do today.

There is grace for both friend.
