Psalm 23 (Day 2)

Reading: Psalm 23 v3

He leads me beside still waters, He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Are you weary? Worn out?  Exhausted? Overworked?

Jesus is the Shepherd who knows the right waters to lead us to, He knows the good places, the still places, so that our souls can be restored. In Middle Eastern summers water supplies can be limited but a good shepherd knows where his sheep need to be to find water. A place that the sheep will feel safe with water that does not rush to fast and startle them. Fresh water in good supply for the whole flock to be satisfied.

I’ve lost count how many times my life has been in turmoil and a few moments with the Good Shepherd at the still waters is enough to recalibrate and still my thoughts.

Gods the perfect compass. He never takes us the wrong way. He never holds us back or allows us to arrive early. He knows the right paths to take us on to fulfil our needs.

When we follow His guiding, we will always find ourselves near waters that refresh and restore, even if we must travel across dry paths to get there.

Leading us to the righteous path, or to the right path is not just for our good but also for His glory and His name sake.

Everyday we are ambassadors for Jesus. The people we meet, our friendship groups, the family we belong to, they all watch to see how we respond to life. I once read a quote by the Evangelist Billy Graham that’s said:

We are the Bibles the world is reading; We are the creeds the world is needing; We are the sermons the world is heeding.

Do you walk with God down the righteous path? Or do you take your own route? Do you honour Gods name by trusting His paths?

Shepherds always plan a route before they begin a journey. They are always thinking ahead. You can be sure today that God has gone before you and is planning out the journey. He is making a way for you to walk in.

Why not trust Him?
